Being prepared when arriving or departing the Mykonos Ferry Port is key. How do I know this? As someone who recently experienced the madness of arriving at this Greek Island paradise, I thought I’d share a few tips.

Although the port may not be particularly large, it’s always bustling with activity. It’s also helpful to understand the distinctions between the ‘new port’ and the ‘old port.’

Each serves different purposes and caters to various types of vessels, making this knowledge essential for planning your visit.

My very brief and informative post will aim to answer all the questions you might have about the Mykonos Ferry Port!

Where is the Mykonos Port (Tourlos or New Port)?

To clarify, the New Ferry Port in Mykonos, also known as Tourlos, is located on the northeastern side of the island, distinct from the Old Port.

It’s conveniently positioned just 3 km away from the buzzing Mykonos Town and a mere 5 km from the airport.

This ferry hub connects Mykonos with several other Cycladic islands and various destinations, serving as the main gateway for travelers coming by sea.

If you are arriving by cruise ship you will be arriving at the New Port of Mykonos. Most local ferries also dock at the new port, while some of the smaller ferries go to the Old Port.

Transportation At The New Port – Information & Tips

If you are thinking that you will just get off the ferry and snag a taxi you can think again.

There are not a lot of taxis on the island of Mykonos. The last I was told there were about a total of 32 taxis on the island…total. That means no Uber, sorry.

So I recommend you arrive with a plan to get from point A to point B. There are a few options when it comes to going from the port to your hotel or the Chora (old town).

I took the bus which dropped me within a 10-minute walk to my hotel. Below are all the options available to you!

Public Bus

Depending on where your hotel is located I suggest taking the bus. It is a very reliable and affordable way to reach your accommodations.

Cost

Expect to have €1.50-€2.50 in cash to purchase the bus tickets. You will need to purchase a ticket each time you ride the bus. Look for the kiosk at each station.

Timetable

Buses run more frequently in the peak summer months. You can look ahead at the bus schedule here on the official website. Information is available closer to the departure dates.

SeaBus

If you are staying in the old town of Mykonos you can take the water taxi from the ferry port. The boat will drop you at the Mykonos Town Harbour and you can walk to your accommodation from there. It is important to note there will be no taxis at the Mykonos town arrival port. You would need to walk to short 10 minutes to the Fabrika bus station.

Car Rental

Cost

Varies depending on the time of year you are booking your vehicle. To give you an idea of what it might cost I researched a weekend in June. The cost comes out to $30 a day, and where I come from that is wildly affordable.

Pick Up Location

The rental car location is conveniently located at the Tourlos Port. I would recommend booking with Discover Cars they have always had the best service and rates.

Private Transfer Information

Hotels usually offer a private transfer pick-up, this is not guaranteed so you must check with your hotel. My hotel was offering this service but it was 30€ each way and I decided against it.

If your hotel does not offer pick-up, you can arrange a private transfer with Welcome Pick-ups. They are the most reliable service that I have used in Greece.

Taxis

When I recently visited Mykonos this past summer season there was a shortage of taxi drivers. I could never depend on finding one. When I arrived at the port there were about 10 taxis at the main taxi stand, but they were already booked.

The best way to get a taxi in Mykonos is to call ahead and reserve one. A good idea would be to ask your hotel for the phone number of the local taxi drivers.

Cost

A taxi ride is going to vary depending on where you are going, but you can expect that it will be the most expensive option on this list.

Cantina Mykonos Port will store your luggage for you while you explore the island. You can contact them directly for more information.

A tourist information booth can be found in the port, providing maps, brochures, and information about Mykonos, including attractions, accommodations, and transport.

Accessibility:

The New Port is designed to be accessible, with facilities catering to travelers with mobility issues.
