My visit to Granada, Spain, was short and sweet! While I would advocate for more time in this hidden gem, this post is for anyone who only has 24 hours in Granada!

I have included all the best places you don’t want to miss when crafting your Granada itinerary. You will find a complete guide to both touristy and non-touristy attractions, as well as where to stay in Granada!

24 Hours in Granada: Best Things To Do in One Day

Start your trip in the city of Granada at 9 am at the Alhambra palace! Located in the city center, it is the perfect place to start your day!

9:00 Visit the Alhambra – UNESCO World Heritage Site

The most touristy, but in a good way, thing to do in Granada is to visit the Alhambra! Do not do what I did and think you can get tickets to the palace the day you arrive in Granada.

Unfortunately, you need way more than 24 hours to get these tickets. I could snag a ticket to walk the palace grounds, but I did not get to tour inside the Nasrid Palaces.

The iconic fortress has been around since 889 and it’s still as breathtaking and majestic today as it was back then.

If you do get tickets for the palace, you wander through its many halls, you’ll find yourself surrounded by colorful tilework, elaborate carvings, and intricate designs. The Alhambra is a true feast for the eyes!

You can feel this place’s history as you explore its different chambers.

But it isn’t just about what’s displayed inside the palace walls. Make sure to take some time to explore the stunning gardens, this is where I spent all my time. Here, you can admire fountains, ponds, and lush vegetation that are truly beautiful.

The Alhambra isn’t just a historic landmark—it’s also an amazing cultural experience, which is what makes this such an incredible Andalusian city.

From its architecture to its vibrant gardens, this palace will leave a lasting impression. In the Generalife palace, you can get a feel of what it was like for the Kings of Granada.

Although a touristy thing to do, well worth it to witness history and beauty all at once – it doesn’t get much better than that!

What Not To Miss in Alhambra

1. Stroll the courtyards of Arrayanes, the Reja, the Sultana, and the Acequia.
2. Don’t miss a stop at the Alhambra Museum and gift shop.
3. Relax in the Gardens of the Partal and the Medina.
4. Enjoy the labyrinthine designs and water games of the Generalife Gardens.

12:00 Visit the Moorish Albayzín Neighborhood

Nestled at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and bordered by the Darro River, this stunningly beautiful area is steeped in history and full of charm. From ancient winding cobbled streets to breathtaking views of the Alhambra Palace, it’s no surprise that this neighborhood is a must-see for tourists.

The best way to explore Albayzín is by foot so you can really take in all the historical sights. Enjoy the street performers of flamenco guitar players in the distance to the delicious smells of local tapas wafting from nearby restaurants.

As you wander the steep cobbled streets, be sure to take a moment to admire the stunning architecture and historic buildings. It’s also a great place to get those Instagram-worthy pictures.

For an amazing view down into Granada, climb up to the Mirador de San Nicolás. This terraced viewpoint is a must-visit spot, where you can soak in the spectacular views of Albayzín and even catch glimpses of the Alhambra Palace.

From here, it’s easy to understand why this ancient Moorish neighborhood has been so well preserved over the centuries

14:00 Granada Walking Food Tour

Eat like the locals on this small group 1.5-hour walking food tour of the old town of Granada! This food tour is one of the best things to do in Granada a day to explore the city.

In addition to your tasting, the knowledgeable tour guide will educate you on this wonderful city and all the region of Southern Spain has to offer!

This tour starts at Mercado San Agustin, the local food market. Your guide will explain the typical gastronomy of Granada.

The city of Granada has some of the best restaurants that I have ever been to in Spain! I love a city full of rich history and great food! Here are some of the best restaurants you don’t want to miss in your 24 hours in Granada.

• La Auténtica Carmela is an upscale and award-winning restaurant located in the center of the city, close to the Cathedral and Plaza Nueva. Enjoy some of the best food made with traditional Andalusian ingredients.
• Mirador de Morayma is a terrific spot for the best views of the Alhambra paired with some Spanish tortilla. I stumbled upon this place when strolling through the winding streets of the Moorish Albayzín neighborhood.

16:00 Visit Hammam Al Ándalus

One of the best non-touristy things I did in Granada was visit the Arab baths at the Hammam Al Ándalus! This place is one of the most unique spots in Granada.

❤︎ Tip: Book ahead to visit the Hammam Al Ándalus, it is the perfect place to be during siesta.

From hot and cold pools to soaps, scrubs, and massages, I can’t think of a better place to go if you’re looking to take a break from your busy itinerary.

Plus, it’s conveniently located in the heart of Granada, so you can easily get there from wherever you’re staying.

19:00 Eat Free Tapas at Bodegas Castañeda

Order a drink and enjoy some of the free tapas at Bodegas Castañeda. This place is both touristy and not since many of the locals frequent this place.

If you only have 24 hours in Granada, I recommend you make a stop here for some yummy tapas, and if you have time a full meal!

Bodegas Castañeda is located in the city center and is one of the top attractions of tapas places in Granada. It gets very busy and loud, but you get to immerse yourself in this authentic experience.

If you have 2 days in Granada, then I would also add Casa De Vinos La Brujidera to your list!

20:45 Seeing a Flamenco Show

Seeing a traditional flamenco show in Granada, Spain is an experience like no other. From the passionate stomping of feet to the emotion-filled singing, there’s nothing quite like it!

It’s mesmerizing to watch the dancers move gracefully across the stage with their colorful skirts and frilly shawls. And when the live music starts, everyone in the audience is swept away by its fiery rhythm.

The whole performance is incredibly intimate, and it’s impossible not to be moved by its sheer power. The costumes add a sense of drama and excitement to the show.

Visiting the Cathedral of Granada is like stepping back in time. This stunning 15th-century structure is one of the most beautiful places in Spain with its intricate stone carvings and magnificent interiors.

The Granada Cathedral is a place that will leave you awestruck, even if you’re not particularly religious.

Mirador de San Nicolas

A trip to the Mirador de San Nicolas is a must-do when you’re in Granada. It’s one of the most spectacular views in the city, and it’s definitely worth a visit! From its perch atop Alhambra Hill, the Mirador offers sweeping views of the entire cityscape below.

As you make your way up the hill, you’ll be able to see Granada’s mosques, churches, and monuments laid out in all their glory. And, of course, it wouldn’t be complete without a stunning backdrop of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains!

Carrera del Darro

Taking a short walk on Carrera del Darro in Granada is like taking a stroll through history! This beautiful and ancient street, located in the center of the city of Granada, dates back to Roman times. Best Time to Visit Granada

When it comes to picking the perfect time to visit Granada, Spain there’s no shortage of options! From balmy summers, colorful autumns, and mild winters… you can’t go wrong. That said, if you’re looking for the best time to experience Granada in all its glory, I recommend touring the city during springtime.

The weeks leading up to Easter are particularly wonderful to spend 24 hours in Granada, as the city is bursting with energy and life. Temperatures are warm (but not too hot), allowing you to explore the stunning Alhambra Palace and wander through the winding streets of Albayzín without breaking a sweat. And with blooming flowerbeds everywhere you look, the city is almost as colorful as it is vibrant!

Summer is definitely the high season in Spain. If crowded tourist hotspots aren’t your thing, I recommend planning a trip to Granada in late autumn, when I visited.

Not only does this allow you to catch up on some of Spain’s finest cultural offerings without battling through crowds, but it also allows for a more laid-back experience.

Plus, autumn is the ideal time for cozy evenings spent sipping hot chocolate at a charming tapas bar and watching the sunset over the Sierra Nevada mountains. I can’t wait to go back!

Day Trip Ideas From Granada

If you want to continue your journey through Spain, a great idea is to take a road trip and visit the nearby city of Seville! This city has 3 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, all of which I saw on my solo trip.

If you make it more than a day trip, and are visiting in July and August consider staying in a hotel with a swimming pool, as the heat is oppressive!

Another great stop in the Andalucia region is Cordoba! There are so many excellent things to do in Cordoba that can all be done in 24 hours!

Ideas for a Coastal Spanish Getaway

There is no shortage of beautiful spots to visit in Spain. But, if you want my advice, you should consider San Sebastian.

Located in the north of Spain just 25 kilometers from France, it’s perfect for a short getaway. If you have 2 days to spare, you should consider 48 hours in San Sebastian!

Wrapping Up One Day in Granada

I’ve fallen in love with every Spanish city I’ve visited, but Granada was extra special. Even though it was a short trip, I saw a lot of this magical place. If your heart pulling you to see Spain, check out Granada!
